These are good with Commando barrels and those at less than 12".
Since there is not much gas tube on those little barrels, the pigtail elongates the amount of gas path like Kurt says. Not much gas means not great cycling all the time. More gas gives more oooomph to the carrier's rearward travel...
A pushrod piston system on the little guys would help their reliability more than the curly cue IMHO. Ya think Kurt? ;)

Me either. With a new gas piston that locates the port at the standard M16 location, all that's left for me to design is a new gas block that has a short P-rail out front. That way, the retrofit interfaces with existing barrels, and a BM flipup front sight can be mounted.
