My pre ban WANTS to shoot hot ammo. In fact I have a very hot 124 grain NATO bullet reload worked up that I would never use in my 9mm pistols, even my BHPs. It has a magnum primer as well, and puts 3 rounds into 1 inch at 50 yards. .. but I am not gonna give out the load for liability reasons. I use the once fired brass once for this use and then they go into the "lead bullet/medium power" reload bin. The best factory loads to shoot in the Colt are the 124 grain NATO style hot +P military rounds. I like the British and German versions best. A good, accurate, commonly available load is the Geco brand.
