Are there any lowers made of anything besides Alum? I was just curious, I asume for troup movement it was AL, but something different like stainless (aside from it's machining disadvantages over AL) or brass maybe? any ideas?

Hesse makes a carbon fiber one that has been getting good reviews on assaultweb.com. JoeKen used to have them for sale at about $64 a piece. Bushmaster plans on making one in the future. Expect it to cost about 140 or more.

There have also been lowers made from steel, stainless steel, and titanium, in addition to the common aluminum (whether machined from billet, machined from forgings, or machined from castings). Cavalry Arms makes lowers injection-molded from Nylon 6 (same material used for glock pistol frames), Hesse/Vulcan makes some from Kevlar. Professional Ord and now Bushmaster make some from carbon fiber composite.

The stainless and titanium lowers are right now being made by Olympic Arms, and perhaps stainless by some other small shops.

Oh yeah, DPMS makes stainless lowers, as well, IIRC.
