I am doing my senior thesis on the AK-47 and now I am trying to collect some information on them. I have a SAR 1 that I am very happy with. I have put 600 rounds through it and no trouble. Is there anything I should look for (meaning parts I could look at before something would go wrong?) Anyway on to the real question... Am I correct in saying in my paper that semi-auto AK-47's such as the popular SAR 1, 2, and 3 can not be converted to full auto with one of these "Original AK-47 Full Auto Parts Kits"? This paper has nothing to do with the legality of it just the operation. I am comparing the AK-47, AK-74, and the M16. I have only shot a 47 and the M16 and the 47 kicks ass.
Thanks for your time,
Glenn

No, they will work, but they will only work on semi auto till you drill and place a auto sear. I also dont think that the sar-3 has auto parts, Isnt that the dragonov type of rifle, if so then it was never made in a full auto version, THe part the makes it go Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat instead of tat is the auto sear.

Thanks. That is the only thing that you must do is dril the whole for the pin for the auto sear correct?

I believe you would also need a FA bolt/carrier. Keep it legal, or lose it and your freedom. The SAR 3 is the .223 caliber model.

I dont know what will hapen if you drop semi-auto parts into a rifle with the auto sear inplace, I think it would only fire semi because the auto bolt carrier has a special grove in it for the sear. Try moving this question over to the FUll-auto forum, They will be able to answer your questions beter.
