I saw a Bushy Bullpup on the rack at a local shop and the weapon is about 98%. I spoke to the guy I always deal with there and he said I could get it for $575.00. I trust Bushmaster rifles and would like to have the weapon in my collection, but I don't know what a fair price is-anyone know what a slightly used one should cost?

I have seen several new for sale in the $600-$700 range. Check the obvious web sellers (guns america, gun broker). You can also try a Google search for the M17S bullpup. I found a dealer on the East Coast selling them for <$600.

I did a little checking and $575 did seem a fair deal, so I picked it up. It had the manual, sling and a 30rd Thermold magazine with it. I gave it the once-over and I like it-it's a bit different but I think it will be a nice addition to the collection. You can never have too many guns!

I also found a site that has mods for it if you want to check it out: http://www.kurtskustomfirearms.citymax.com/page/page/42606.htm
I like what he has done there.
Be sure to post your findings with the performance, and feel of the trigger once you have shot it.
I will be going to some shows in the coming weeks and hope to check one out first hand.

Congrats on the new toy.

First, welcome to the group, bigTlittleodd !!!

$575 is reasonable for a used in excellent condition M17S. I paid $600 for a new one a couple of weeks back. I plan on doing something similar to what Kurt at Kurts Kustom did and modify the upper with a few cooling holes. I did take the trigger out and polished all the contact surfaces, as well as the connecting rod to the hammer, and the channel it rides in. I then used a teflon based lube on all contact surfaces. The result was a slightly better trigger feel, but still nowhere near match grade. I have a modification to the charging handle that I plan, using a modified AR-15 handle. If it works, I will show pictures.

I put an inexpensive Tasco 3-9x40 scope on it, and it is a really nice shooter!

Enjoy

Man forget the mod'ed CH, have you seen the long horn charging handle? That is a SWEET upgrade and a vast improvement over Kurts folding version.
