If someone can help me with this? I need to know what kind of bolt to get that holds the upper and lower reciver together. It is the bolt that allows the pivioting of the two when you break the gun down. The riffel is a colt, the bolt had a screw that went inside, basicaly its a sex bolt. I would like to find one that works like the bolt closest to the stock, you jsut push on it to come out. Any info would be a big help.

Thanks

Shooter - The pin you need can probably be found at your local gun show. Colt's have two different sizes of pins depending on how old the rifle is (I don't own a Colt and I'm only repeating what I've heard). The differently sized pins might just be for the rear takedown pin and not for the front takedown pin that holds the upper and lower together. I'm unsure and someone else might have to pitch in there to correct me. There will most likely be a table at your local gun show with someone selling AR parts. Take the gun in there and have that guy take a look at it and sell you the right parts if he has them. There is a spring loaded retention pin that keeps the pin you want in place also so you don't have to worry about it coming out of the rifle and being lost etc if you install it too. It makes the rifle more field friendly. I'm sure some colt owner out there could be of more assistance if you need help ordering the right parts.

I'll ask my bud that owns some colts about his pins.

Go to the Bushmaster website. They have every part you could ever need for an AR, along with online schematics.

www.bushmaster.com

Something to consider--is your gun made up of a Colt upper and lower or is the upper a different make? The only pivot pins that have a screw in them are the ones that mate a small pin Colt lower to a large pin mil-spec upper. Make sure before you order the part.

Colt's newer lowers do not have the hole drilled in the lower recv for the detent and spring, thats why its a screw. Your pretty much screwed unless you want to use one of those ball detent pins like in a cobray m-11. I really have no problem with the screw in my colt. Why would you need to take it apart enough to use that.. The only thing I have ever noticed, if you dont pay it attention and after you have broken the lock-tite on it, it will sometimes try to unscrew itself with the recoil. 2 options, sell the colt and get a bushmaster, 2 ball detent. or really 3 options, have the lower drilled for the spring and detent (I wouldnt go doing it myslef to a real colt, but its possible) What type of colt is it???
Sporter, match target????

Sure: www.armalite.com

On their website, go to the catalog, and go to rifle parts. On rifle parts, go to the lower receiver section, and he needs to order part#7, 8, and 10.

Now, without anymore description from him, we can only assume that his Colt's receivers have SMALL pivot hole. We also can only assume that the raised "fence" on the side of the receiver is already DRILLED for the detent spring and the detent.

If his Colt rifle has LARGE pivot hole, ignore the above. He must then go to: www.bushmaster.com/shopping/lowers/oak-01.asp

I hope this helps!
