Anyone got one of these? I saw one in a local store for 800 bucks on consignment, the guy who runs the store said he must be really hard up, cuz its a preban and must need the cash or something, well I put 100 bucks on it,, I was gonna get a Bushie,, but a Colt for almost the same price is irresistable.

This thing has a "flashider" on it,, appears to be non removable. there are only slots on the UPPER part of this hider though, and the bottle is solid, so i reasoned this is "kinda" a muzzle break.
There is no bayonet lug.

It has a long thin barrel, Non H bar, prob one in 7 twist.

ser number SL 0116XX.

I called Colt and they said it was made in 92, and is preban.

WTF?
Someone please help

Yeah, but Im asking, if it was made in 92, its not a TRUE preban?

It has the lug sawed off,, I cant put an M4 upper on it can I?

Or CAN I I dont fuggin know?My Polytech for instance,, was made in like 88, so it beat the 89 ban,, i can have anything i want on it.

Unless some jamoke put a crappy postban upper on a preban lower,, I KNOW the lower was made in 92,,, cuz thats what colt said.

Im so confused!!

Thank God I never got my own gunstore, Id be in fucking jail.

Praying for a "sunset"

I'm almost 100% certain that you can put whatever you want on it. Finish paying for it and get it now. That's my advice. Enjoy.

That "muzzle brake" type flash hider is the way Colt made their pre-ban flash hiders. Supposedly it kicks up less dust in prone, and also has some muzzle brake effect. Is the barrel thick outside the guards, but smaller in diameter under the guards? That would be what Colt called their "government model". Anything else would probably some form of "A1" barrel. Most 90's Colt barrels have the twist and the magnetic particle (MP) stamped on 'em. Also a C infront of the (MP) occassionaly. Also, after 87-88, Colt sawed the bayonet lugs off of their barrels. Those were an "interim" model that was designed to pacify the anti's. Yeah, that worked....

Big', like the guys said, you can do 'bout anything to the gun legally. The lower' IS a preban. there ARE some things to consider though.

#1 The lower is almost worth what You're payin'. I know! It's BS to pay that much but I've seen it (recently) happen.

#2 The upper may OR may NOT be COLT. Alot of guys pull the uppers and sell them and then throw an Oly' or ASA upper on them (You'de still come out ahead here).

#3 The butt-stock "May" be an after market. like I said in #2, alot of guys stripped these guns of everything but the lowers and sold them at 'shows. Also, check your bolt and carrier.

#4 (at the risk of repeatin' #1) all-in-all, sounds like a "screamer" to Me! If the gun is a lower with after-market parts? You're still gettin' a good deal. If it's an "All Original" Colt light-weight? We sold our last one for $1,500.

I'm not near the expert on these things so, you might want to post a description of this deal to the tight asses over on AR-15.com. Those guys'll tell what'cha got there.

Good deal.

Big Duke, it IS a true preban. Colt removed the bayonet lugs voluntarily in 89 to be more PC, but the gun is still peban because it has a flash supressor. You can put any upper and any stock you want on it. That price is excellent and if you don't buy it let me know the phone number of the shop and I will.
