Hey

Has anyone tried those 30 round mags that are made in england?? they look just like the usgi mags but they have a green follower and a sticker that says ENGLAND.

just wondering if anyone has tried them as they are about 10-15 dollars cheaper than the usgi mags.

Thanks

Are you talking about the black or gray ones? Both are good quality I have found the black ones fit a little better than the gray. Some slight filling took care of mag hold. Good deal for the money.

I purchased like 20 of the gray phosphated "England" mags and they function 100% reliably in my Bushmaster Carbine and preban Colt Sport Target. They are steel as opposed to aluminum, and if kept oiled the phosphate should provide years of service without corrosion.

Two issues:

1) The center leg on the dark blue follower is a smidge too long for 30 rounds to be loaded on some of these. I removed all of the followers and trimmed about 1/8 off the center leg with a diagonal cutting pliers. No problems.

2) Two of the 20 mags would not lock into the receiver of the Bushmaster when empty, and filing the top edge of the mag catch window took care of that. The other 18 were fine as-is.

Also note: The dark blue followers are the same style as that of the popular "green follower." Many owners of the "England" mags have seen fit to replace the blue followers with green ones, but in 1200 to 1500 rounds I have had no misfeed issues to warrant doing so. I attribute the "green follower" phenomenon to an offshoot of the "more is better" school of thought. Sorta like fitting some types of mags with "extra power" springs and wondering why the rounds won't strip out of them reliably.

I shake my head at the owners of 20 rd USGI mags that post about trying to fit green followers into those to improve reliability, when 20 rd AR mags never had a problem given the alloy followers in them.

EDIT for spelling.

What is the difference between the black English mags and the grey English mags? Which ones work better/more reliable?
