I'm not trying to rattle anyone's cage here, but I read somewhere that the so-called "dots on the slide/sight plane theory" is bunk. Is this true? I currently own two of these pistols and low and behold on the top of the slide on one of them there is indeed a very tiny dot, no larger than a pinprick just about 3/4 of an inch ahead of the ejection port. I assume it didn't get there by accident. The pistol appparently takes no notice of this and shoots fine. Can someone please elucidate me a little?

those are hardnes testing dots. they have a machine that pushes a pin into the metal and tests the hardness. If they harden/reharden a slide during manufacture/rearsenaling and it isnt up to spec, they harden it again and try again. the dots tell you how many times it was done.

I agree with Skrenos. There is a persistent belief that the indents signify accuracy, and some have trotted out alleged "statements" by Czechs "who worked there" that supposedly support this theory. I have three CZ52s, one with four hardness indents, one with two, and one with one. All of them make the same group size with a given type of ammo.
Further, if you look closely at the CZ52, you will see other components that were indented by a hardness tester, not just the slide.

...and if you check out your other guns, you'll see the dots too. my bulgie mak has 2 dots on the hammer, two on the trigger, and one on the frame that I can see right off.
