What is the majority Opinion on the Bushmaster Carbon-15 as to durability??? How tough is that stuff?? And what about general reliability?? The old posts mention problems with the pre-Bushmaster carbon AR's -- Are they worked out now?? Thanks, Bill.
C&R Bill,
The early Professional Ordnance Carbon 15s suffered from stove-piping and poor extraction.
I had one...I really loved it...but the mojority of the time it jammed up about every three rounds or so. Sometimes it worked okay, but for the most part it was unreliable, so I got rid of it.
One of our members here who is a bit of an AKNUT has had great luck with his.
At this point in time, I would assume that Bushmaster has worked out all of the issues and has a great product to offer. They also offer a 1-year warranty on their products.
If I were so inclined (translation = rich enough) I'd add another to my meager collection.

I have an M97 (no sites) and an M97s (S = with iron sites). I had to send the 97S to Bushmaster for stovepiping problems. They sent it back fast, told me they went to a new spring. I've put way over 500 rounds through each with no malfunctions. Both weigh about 4lbs and have almost no recoil. My wife is fairly small and has no problem shooting them. I'm waiting for Bushmaster to come up with removable iron sites for the M97. I'm getting old, so seeing 50 yards is a stretch for me with open sites. I have a 1.5X4.5 scope on it now with back to zero rings. I'd like to have iron sites in it too "just in case" the scope messes up. BTW, I have shot 1.5" groups at 100 yards from a prone position using my mag pouch for a rest. I'm not a great shot and others could do better. The 97S could use some magnification, but the scope would be up way too high because of the iron site arrangement. I'll probably put a pistol scope on it towards the muzzle. An ACOG would be nice, but still too expensive. These are my first AR guns, so I have nothing else to compare them too.

I have had very good luck with mine as long as I use the ammo that it likes. Sellier & Bellot works great and is very accurate shooting 5 rounds of all touching holes at 50 yards. I have a Tasco 3-12x40 World Class scope on it to help my aging eyes. :D It also shoots Remington UMC and Israeli made Winchester with no problems, BUT it will not extract South African Surplus, the chamber is too tight for that military round. Have never, and will never try anything that is not brass.
The fun part of shooting the Carbon-15 Model 97 is the huge flame that it puts out. Even through the scope, the world turns flame orange, followed by a WOW from anyone watching.
I have since put several thousand rounds through it using S&B and have not had a single failure of any kind.

I've had no problems with HotShot 62gr. It's made by Igman. I've been hearing very good reports about the new poly-coated Wolff ammo. ARs usually don't like Wolff, but maybe I'll give the new stuff a try.
