Anyone making 6.8mm Remington uppers yet? I know they have been on Barretts website....but when are they going to hit the more common dealers?
Anyone have an idea what other mods will have to be done to the standard AR to function with the new 6.8mm round?

Model 1 Sales will have them.

I see barrett has theirs out, but apparently no uppers as seperate piece yet. I understand that there is no mag or magwell conversion. Just bolt on the new upper, use an ar mag (you may have to bend/adjust feed lips) and your ready to go. This caliber promises to be spectacular. Cant wait.

Anyone know of a source for 6.8mm ammo? Barrett can bring out all the uppers in the world....if the round isn't commercially available then it is a dead issue.

B Wood,
You make an excellent point. I am looking for ammo source now. Shouldnt be a problem though. Remington offers the 6.8 in its Premier Match Grade. I think this round will be the hottest offering in years. I saw Model 1 Sales in the April 1 2004 edition of Shotgun News offering a range of new 6.8 uppers. Priced from 355-up. Pre ban A2 with birdcage or a post ban A3 uppers w/ 11 degree crown.

Any word on the 'long range' advantages or disadvantages of the new 6.8 round?
I wouldn't mind making a 'longer range' rifle with this round if it's good!

Yeah 308,
The Tactical Forums are the best read, and open with some nice info. I think its still early in the offering and we should see more companies producing uppers and ammo for really decent prices.
RJ,
I am not a long range shooter, but the forum should provide some ballistics that you may find interesting.
Again, I think this will be an awesome round, and because of the adaptablity to our AR's will be cost effective. Having a quick change two caliber weapon is a really nice feature.

Looks like a very impressive cartridge. Nuts, now I'm going to liquidate all that 5.56 ammo! :(
