Who else owns one?

I hear less than favorable refences to them every now and then but never something straight out. I like mine, alot. Very accurate, well made, and good looking.

My biggest complaint is that when you put the full 8 rounds in the magazine it's hard to seat. That and the plastic bottom of the mag is a bit cheesey.

Anyone?

A friend has one and likes it. It is fairly accurate and has been reliable for him. The price makes it a good value.

My friend trimmed the follower leg in the mag in order to get the full mag to seat easier.

The same handgun was marketed under the "Mauser" name for a while.

Mine is serial number AA0099XX. I got it for less than $300 including the $10 permit fee MO charges. This is a new production handgun, there are no surplus' available.

It comes in a black plastic, foam lined case with two magazines, instruction book and a cleaner cloth. It is blued steel with wood grip panels and white dot "combat" style sights. The profile/operational characteristics are that of a Browning Hi-Power. (The loud, politically active guy at my range announced "Oh, you got yourself a Hi-Power." Till he saw the muzzle). Disassembly and cleaning are the same. Hi-power grips do not interchange.

A Beretta 92fs fits me like a glove and so does the GKK. Although for target shooting I might prefer slightly fatter grips, with my CCW on the horizon, the stock grips offer a better profile. I prefer a two handed grip and the tactical trigger guard fills that bill nicely. It has a wide trigger style that I've found lacking in many european designs. It has a hammer drop safety which makes one in the pipe a matter of course. The single action pull seems very long but that may be because I rarely use it. The double action pull is about 3 pounds, medium/light, and very smooth. At 7m, after the first magazine I get bored hitting the same hole over and over, (you can cover the pattern with a half dollar), and start using more of the Shoot-n-See target area just to get my moneys worth out of the target. Recoil is about what you would expect, too much for the comfort of my wife, (the Makarov nut in the family), but less than that of a 1911. The sight system makes follow-up shots easy if you've trained with combat sighting before but the muzzle will flip if you let it.

The mag issue is my major problem but there is a fix to try above. I've searched recently and found that Pro-Mag makes an aftermarket magazine as well as an enhanced 10 round mag. I'll be trying those first because I like to keep original equipment as original as possible. I could do with grooves on the front of the grip, the front of the trigger guard and fine grooves on the trigger itself. The first 500 rounds or so it didn't want any part of reloads and I had several feeding issues. Once the feed ramp was polished from use, those issues have gone away. I used the Winchester bulk ammo to polish and only got failures from limp wristing. BTW: Limp wristing is not an option, (probably why the wife will only fire one magazine or so per trip). The GKK demands that you draw down on your target with malice, forethough and purpose. I like that in a .45.

All in all I like mine, alot. I rarely buy NIB firearms because I want to avoid the break-in period. In this case, I needed it as much as the pistol did. I intend to carry it when a Mak would not be enough and the Beretta would be too bulky. Staring down the .45 caliber pipe should be enough for most bad guys and the GKK has the accuracy to handle the rest.

For you other FEG .45 owners, does the last shot hold open work reliably on yours? That's the one problem I have with it. I think the slide catch may be slightly too short.

Other than that, I've put about 600 rnds through it without any problems. This thing will feed an empty case most of the time. Since I'm not a very good shot I can't comment on accuracy (seems as good as any other I've shot though). Its ergonomics aren't the greatest. If you like heavy steel and wood guns, this one you'll probably like. I know I do.
