Jusat got one of these for cheap, unissued. Need info on what modern batteries will work in it, I can rig up a battery pack to work with it, I just need to know if anyone has done so before. Voltage?

I purchased one awhile back that is non-functional. I was told that they are 24 volt but the replacement illuminator bulbs that came with the scope are rated 45 volts. If you find out any info please let ne know. I want to build up a Polish display gun and if the scope never works it would not be the end of the world. In addition I have been trying to locate a good picture of the early Russian or Polish optical plate that is used to mount the scope to the rifle (AK47 or early AKM). The plate is much larger than the currently used rail and is mounted higher on the receiver. I see you are in the Houston area There is according to posts on this board or maybe it was the other one a Russian Type III that has one of the plates. Are you familiar with this gun? If so, some good pictures of the plate would be a great asset. Tantal has some low resolution pictures of the AKM plate on his site.
thanks

Not familiar with the plate, but when I get the scope I'll be able to try it on ROmanian, Russian SAIGA, and an SVD sideplate, we'll see.

hey, for what it's worth, i have a buddy that swears by "batteries plus" stores. he says you can take anything that runs on batteries to them and they can rig something up to run it reliably. you can also take wierd bateries to them and they can recharge them.

Well I did find some Duracell 4.5 volt batteries with terminal leads, these are used in spelunker's helmets. It works great, but the light being pushed through the IR filter on this dinosaur is weak, even a suurefire flashlight has trouble being strong through this IR filter.

Some folks are using an IR laser diode for an IR source. Much more efficient than the bulb and filter setup.

Where does one find an IR laser diode? That might be a cool toy. for a number of applications.
