I ordered a traditional Russian Kepi hat in the forest camo pattern from www.redsoldier.com and i was wondering if the forest pattern is a very popular camo used in russia. I've seen alot of clothing in the forest pattern and it seems like the forest pattern is more available than most other pattern's. Thanks.

Forest ("Les") camo is a commercial product and as such is not issued to regular armed forces units. Some special forces units chose to get their gear in Les as the commercially made BDU's are generally higher in quality than the government contracted Flora and VSR uniforms.
As far as which issued BDU patterns are used the most in the Russian military - Flora is the #1 by far, followed by VSR as a close second. There's still an occasional classic Soviet "afghan" BDU in Khaki.
Among the various commercial patterns Tigr (Kamysh), Les, Gorod, Reed and SMK are the most prevalent, with DPM, Beryozka (Splav's version), Taiga and others trailing behind them.

After having spoken on the subject with Stan of RussianCombatGear (http://www.russiancombatgear.com) I ought to make a correction to my previous post - it seems that the Russian DOD and Ministry of Interior now order gear in Les and Tigr/Kamysh and it's being issued to some units. While that gear is still not nearly as common as Flora and VSR, it's important to note that Les and Tigr/Kamysh cannot be considered purely commercial patterns.

I've seen numerous fotos of Les camo (very close to U.S. Woodland) in various uniform styles in the field -- primarily by MVD MVD/V V interior troops. Chechnya and such.

A question out of my ignorance: is "Les" what is often referred to as the "Scholfield" pattern ?

No -- "Schofield" = VSR pattern. "Les" is very similar to U.S. woodland pattern.

Also, SMK pattern was in fact an issue pattern, just not real common. It is now seen as "City2" in blue, but originally was in a greenish and a rusty brown variation. Its common now to see it in blue.
