Hey guys
A long time ago, I saw a set of wierd camouflage that had purple and black in it. I saw it at an army surplus store in New hampshire back in the 80's and when I asked the clerk he said it was south african. I have never seen any more like it since. Has anyone ever seen anything like this???

I've seen some older tiger stripe (asian made) that had some of the colors fade to purple, I think it was a vegetable dye that did that.

Some German WWII camo has purple in it, and there is a Soviet era woodland (THE soviet woodland pattern, not US woodland or Flora or VSR) that has a pinkish base color.

Pinks and purples are acually very dominant colors in nature, we just fail to see them that way due to the fact that our mind "knows" that the bush is green or the grass is brown, so it compensates for what our eyes actually perceive. The impressionist painters explored this area of color theory.

Sorry I couldn't help further.

Yep, I had a hat made out of this stuff that I got back in the 80's as well. Some SOB stole it out of my truck, but it was indeed purple and black Tiger pattern, made by the "Adder" company. (How do I remember crap like that but forget to pay the gas bill? My wife wants to know.)
There were shirts, pants and boonie hats that I remember. Spendy, too, like I think $35 (early 80's dollars too) for the hat.

I used to have a jacket and pants with that pattern that I bought at an Army surplus store in California back in the late 80's. I got rid of the pants because they were too big, but I still have the jacket. The tag on it says: ADRO Vryburg / Upington Republic Of South Africa. The clerk at the store told me it was for night combat but I don't know if that's true or not. I remember the uniform cost me about $120.

They Said it was Night camo to me also. I think it may have also had low night vision signature.

Muzzle Flash,

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's technically not traditional Tiger stripe, that's either legit French Lizard pattern or some country's version of Lizard. Nice color choice for whoever that camo suit was made for.

I just picked up some 1950 French Lizard that looks identical except its the original colors. Nice set though.

I ordered some BDU's from here several years ago.
http://www.bradleys-military.com/new/newproducts.htm
Check the BDU page for a pic of the purple tiger stripe pattern. At the time they had BDU's with a woodland type patten that were purple. In the mid 1990's I noticed the purple woodland pattern BDU pants were quite popular with the teenage/collage girls at music festivals and dance clubs in Memphis,TN.

Ahhh! Serbian. Yes, the Serbs and lots of Balkan countries and even Russia uses the French lizard pattern as a tiger stirpe. Check out the Tiger stripe at Redsoldier.com or the "Kamysh" at Russiancombategear.com to see how they are translating lizard these days.

When someone refered to tiger stripe earlier I was thinking the vietnamese tiger stripe that the US borrowed.

That is similiar to what I was thinking of. Though it looked a bit more Amoeba-ish If I remember correctly. It was one of the more interesting camo patterns I had seen.

Buckshott, Those are made as stated above by ADRO of VRYBURG/UPPINGTON, RSA,. The story behind them is they were suppossed to be made for SAP(South African Police) who were sent to Rhodesia during their troubles. They made both a "urban" and a standard Rhodesian pattern, I has a set of both, jacket, trousers, and boonie. I still have the Rhodiesian set, there was also a bush jacket but I never found one forsale.

I have a few SADF, SAP and SARP camo uniforms left, been selling/trading them off but still have that ARDO set ;)
