I was wondering what info is available on these pistols. I remember seeing a drawing of one in an old American Rifleman issue, but not a real picture. I do not remember the article saying much, and mine did not come with a manual. Any data welcome. Also, did not the Polish military replace this sidearm with a similar design weapon, or am I just getting the satellites mixed up?

I have not, nor will I probably ever, shot it. I acquired the piece for my collection of cold war "treasures". Given the size and weight of the pistol I imagine it is no different than similar size guns. Perhaps due to being blowback and the grip angle it may seem that the recoil is more pronounced, but I can not imagine it would be painful (unless you happen to be on the business end ;) ).

O.K. I have found a couple of answers, but now I have more questions:( . The P-64 was replaced by the VANAD. When will these pistols be imported? Also, where can I find proper surplus accessories for this little gun (holsters, mags, etc.) ? I can't even find an exploded view of my pistol. I would settle for a little design history, or anything. Thanks in advance for any help!

I'll admit that info on the Polish P64 is a bit sketchy. The Vanad actually was imported in VERY small numbers about three years ago. I haven't seen one offered in about six or eight months.

John:

IIRC, they were like $280 to $320 depending on what dealer had them. It was two to three years ago, but the first ones hit in late 1997. Here's a scan of an adv. from an importer, courtesy of Makarov.com:

And a pic of the Vanad itself:

That helped alot with the Vanad, now if I can just save my money for awhile and hope that someone wants to part with theirs ;) . Me saving money would be the least likely of the two events to happen, though. It seems that I try to save up in hopes of a really special purchase, but just about the time I have any spare money something new comes along and I have to get it. If I can get my C&R FFL it will be even more difficult. The first time I saw a Makarov I had to have one, then it seemed that I developed a fetish for the Soviet weapons ever since. Now what I really want is a Stechkin APS :) .

Thanks, I saw that they had a semi Stechkin on gunbroker. But I don't want to get into to trouble with the way it was converted, he said it had been "pinned". Not sure if that is kosher with the BATFE.
