I am not alone in the oppinion ,as I read the sentiment several times there, that before, the practice of calling people to the carpet for exorbient prices on the clasified boards was a valuble tool to keep scalpers from taking advantage of newbies.
This particularly strikes home for me, as when I was new to the world of AKs, I was conned at a gun show, and ended up with a post banbeat up Maddi MISR with a EG folding stock& pistolgrip, and all foriegn internals for 550$ in my total ignorance.I found out later I had to get the stock welded open, and buy about 75$ in us partsto even make it legal to own.For what, a beat up 200$ gun? I wish some one standing around would have warned me.
That was the good thing about our clasified sections, the helpfull friends to tell me if something is a overpriced for what it really is, and was saddened to see the practice of watching out for our own has been banned from our classifieds in the guidlines posted at the top of the section.
We call it looking put for our own, I suspect it was some of the chicken hawkers that we've kept in check that have complained to you.If someone is asking say, 50$ for parts, can we even ask if they "would go 35, as Ironwood is selling them for that"?They can still sell them for what ever they want, but seems like fair market value should be allowed to be mentioned, I think most of the guys there are fair minded fellows, and manny often sell below market value because they want to unload,I havent seen sharks that lie and under state values, to try and "shark" someone,I think that was unfair to use that term (sharks) because it is misleading about the nature of the average people that post in the clasifieds.
