A store by me has a type 99 for sale with a mum. metal in good shape the wood is poor to fair. Do all type 99 have the 2 piece butt stock? No mono pod or cleaning rod. They are asking $105. Talk me out or in to it. It has a metal buttplate

Yes, most all that I've seen have a two piece spliced buttstock, very typical. Ok why you don't want it. Ummm . . . ammo is hard to find and expensive when you do find it. Only cheap way to shoot one is to modify .30-06 cases to make 7.7 cases.

While 30-06 brass will work, I believe that you can run 8x57 Mauser cases in a 7.7 Jap FL sizing die and be good to go with minor trimming.

Yes they all had a two piece buttstock, but i would pass on that one given the stock condition.

I wouldn't pass at $105 if the metal is good and the bore is good. Beat up wood is pretty common but an intact mum is not. Unless you are looking for a pure investment, you may find a wall hanger with decent wood and trade it out. Even if you pay another $105, you have a good example of a T99 with mum for just over $200.

Does it have AA sight and are the wings still there? A real plus it it does.

8mm Mauser brass ends up just a little bit short but is a breeze to reform and fireform to the chamber. I haven't tried 30-06 since mine is all surplus (a little bit harder than comm'l, so I'm told). 30-06, needs trimmed to length.
