The sixteen-petalled chrysanthemum is the emblem of the Imperial Family.The emblem will be found stamped onto the barrel of the Type 13 , Type 18, and Type 22. The emblem will be stamped on the receiver of the Type 30, Type 35, Type 38, Type 44 and Type 99.
It symbolizes, issuance of the rifles to soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army.Rifles aquired by the Imperial Japanese Navy from the Imperial Army arsenals will be found stamped with the chrysanthemum also, but rifles fabricated in the naval arsenals do not normally have the chrysanthemum stamped onto the receivers.
