Been to the K-Var website lately? They have a AIM/AKM krinkov carbin kit...anyone know anything about these...any pictures and are they any good? Sorta getting into this stuff...a buddy told be krinkov's are illegal since their barrels are so short...and you can't put a pistol grip and folder on them. Thumbhole stocks are another thing i guess. Whats the difference between aim/akm krinkov and the bulgarian krinkov kits...considerable price difference for sure LOL Can anyone help me?

Nimitz (cool handle-- one of my favorite native Texans) read this thread for some Krinkov info: http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/Forum29/HTML/000032.html
Post back if you need more info.

This might sound really weird but just hear me out. I read that post by Charliebio and you all were talking about those "evil features" and stuff like that...and that guy with the enormous post =) Well i'm on a very very limited budget and 6-7000is a bit over the top for me...i don't want to get involved with all that class 3 lisence stuff either. Is it possible to build a non firing krinkov with like no internals but with real parts to have a folder, pistol grip, flash supressor and all those goodies?

Nimitz,
Talk to Mike at MSC http://mike.kalashnikov.guns.ru
I'm sure he can build what you are looking for. Be warned though, in order to have a legal non-firing replica, it will have to conform to ATF de-milled standards which generally make it impossible to render operational.
You mentioned that you don't have a 6000-7000 dollar budget (most of us do not), but you should talk to Mike about building one of these as a semi auto SBR. Your buddy was only partially correct about the barrel length, as you can legally own one as long as you state allows class 3 weapons. The paperwork is not all that difficult to do, and the $200 stamp is cheaper than any lawyer fees for a defense. The hardest part is waiting for the paperwork to return so that you can play with your new toy.
FYI: I would bet that the price difference between building a functional NFA weapon, and a non functioning replica would be negligible.
Good Luck!

OK, Nimitz, I have been thinking about this a little bit. The way to come CLOSE to the Krinkov without going through any BATF red tape is this:
Buy a Maadi or SAR-1 rifle for about $350
Buy a stockest like this http://www.k-varcorp.com/ak006b.JPG from K Var for about $150
Send this off to http://mike.kalashnikov.guns.ru to be assembled with these specifics: Install and weld (or permanently pin) the stock; Cut barrel and install US Krinkov style muzzle brake so that the OAL of the barrel and brake = 16"; Parkerize the metal while your at it; install a US gas piston as well- this should bring the US parts cout to a point where imported mags can be used. Price is purely a guess but maybe $350? E mail Mike for the price
OK that will give you a fully functional rifle that looks much like the Krinkov for about $800. I agree with Saleen on the Dummy gun-- probably cost you $1000 or more just to have this built up from Krinkvo parts.

NIMITZ:
Up until recently, I thought K-Var WAS selling krinkovs for $1000 that did everything but shoot (dang!). And if they don't actually shoot, would the ATF care whether it had a silencer, folding stock, bayonet, grenade launcher? Probably not.
I know about the kits and all, but there were actual demilled krinkovs for sale. If you've got the money or are a studio, fine. But what's the point otherwise?

How about, take any AK that you have in your closet now, and replace the barrel/gas assembly with a KRINK barrel/gas assembly that I see selling for $200???????????
