I posted on this a while back, and I've decided to just order a parts kit. I still want the rifle as lightweight as I can get it, but I don't want to spend much more than $500 or so. Who makes a trtustworthy kit that fits this bill? I've looked at JT, M&A, and Model 1. They don't always list who supplies the various components. JT is pretty good about it, and I like what I hear, but they don't offer exactly what I'm looking for. Model 1 has exactly what I want but don't list who makes there stuff( I did see on here somewhere the uppers were made by RRA which is very good). M&A is just very vague on their web page and hardly tell me anything at all.
Can someone help me please?
After I'm done I will add my review and attempt to post some pics( sometime in Sept;)

nice thing about J&T is they'll do pretty much whatever you want.. just email em and ask em for a quote.. they have a LOT of options that aren't listed on their website

I was wondering if they would deviate/substitute beyond the models that they listed.

They make a lightweight carbine that looks pretty good.

never ordered from them... from what I hear about them.. its sort of mixed opinions.. they don't go to the detail that J&T goes to with kits, so you might end up with a peice that doesn't fit right and may need altering or replacement... (e.g. something as small as the bolt catch) .. other than that I've heard its rock river quality, but I dont think they offer chrome lined on any of the post-ban models.. so if chrome lined is what you're looking for.. might have to ask them specificially if that would be an option...
prices are good though.. but I just choked down the extra 150$ and went with J&T for peice of mind.. but that was my preference.. also got a chrome lined setup for the M4 build which was nicer than just a chrome moly barell.

I'll take much better care of it than the average grunt;)
I plan on making some phone calls before I finalize, but I'm leaning toward the Model
1 kit since they have it configured the way I want it.
JE3146, I appreciate you taking the time out to offer some advice, that is what makes this place so great:)

I've decided to take my time and build it exactly the way I like. My first order went to Model 1. I ordered a lower parts kit and the ACE M4 SOCOM stock(that thing looks very cool). And before anyone gives me a hard time it can be fixed at a particular length. ACE M4SOCOM stock (http://www.riflestocks.com/images04/AR15/M4SOCOM.jpg)
Did that work right?

This rifle has finally been made operational.
I have not seen very many of them but I really like my SOCOM stock. However, with the single-point sling mount positioned on the left side of the rifle, I really need an extended latch for the charging handle to clear it.
After waiting what seemed like forever I ordered a complete upper from Bushmaster. It is an A-3 receiver, 14.5" M4 barrel(5.56mm, chrome lined) with a permanantly mounted Phantom flash hider and a nice evil bayonet lug.
My planned upgrades:
- Badger Ordinance tac latch
- Surefire/ BMAS 4-rail split handguard
- Tango Down vertical grip
- Magpul MIAD modular grip (looks interesting)
BTW, the upper and lower don't have even a hint of a wobble between them. Can't wait to shoot it.
