US "Abu Dhabi" pattern

Anyone know the story behind this pattern? Got a set of BDU's in this particular coloration that I picked up several years ago. I was told it was an experimental US desert pattern that was used in some trials in 1981, losing to the familiar six-color "Day Desert" pattern. Not sure how it picked up the "Abu Dhabi" title, unless we sold some to that nation.

Cool pattern, looks to me like it was a contract for Abu Dhabi, was it evaluated for the US too?

Yep, that's the one. I was told that it was a rejected US trials pattern. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.
