that's a high-tech looking piece! what's the deal with the slot?

It is a very nice knife. I got it thru E-bay for about $50. Here's its $35 sister:

I don't know what the slot is for exactly. I guess they put it there and leave it to the owner's imagination. Both of them come with a leg mounted plastic sheath; the Pathfinder Tactical comes with a compass, also. I don't use them; I have clones of them to use!
