I don't recognise the "butcher" bayonet term, course I'm in no way an expert (on anything), a picture would help, or a detail description, blade length, handle material, blade shape, etc.

I can tell you that a good to very good, all original WWI bayonet for a 1917 Enfield would sell for around $200, if you could find one. Better condition would be more, maybe $300 or $350 for an exellent one.

Hope this is of some help

It would probably be in about the same value range for a collector with an exceptionally good correct rifle to fit it.

The U.S. 1917's, almost all had the 17" blade ground down to 10" and used on Garands during WWII. That's why originals are so scarce. Don't have a clue as to whether the germans did the same. Suspect they would have if feasible, most countries are big on supplying their armies as cheaply as possible, aren't they?

if you're talking in PERFECT condition with the sheath, about $300. a reg bayo would run half that...

Okay! Sounds like you've maybe got a real find there, I can't look it up for you because all my reference material is inaccessable for the next week or three.

I'm sure someone here will find more info before then.

Just one thing though. Please do NOT tell me that some little old lady gave it to you because you held a door open for her or something.

I hate it when things like that happen to other people!!!
