Poking around for some more WWI pics I ran across this. Seller thinks they are Brit, Scot or German.

I think it's pretty obvious....:confused:

Maybe Croatian? The colors on their kilt? look like red and white checker.Never seen a tartan patern like that.

Never seen a tartan like that myself either, and WWI tartans were longer, I'd say these aren't any regular Scots, the uniform doesn't seem quite right. Hmmm, mystery.

Maybe they are using picnic blankets to poke fun at the Scots?;) The tread pattern on the shoes might be a clue, and the collar devices on the dude in the back, and if you had a high res scan of the pic the belt buckle might be telling.

Maybe they are cook's aprons? They had huge bread cooking camps in the rear areas???
