So what is the story???

Which is the "real" Swiss Army Knife?

I have always pondered this, but have never researched it.

Your'e not going to believe this! Sit down, take a deep breath ... Ready?

They both are!

Yep, this topic got a real going over a few years ago on one of the all knife forums. I Think i was at

www.knifeforums.com

But I cant tell which forum, maybe survival, it USED to be truly a truly excellent forum. They or Bladeforums might have a SAK forum.

Lots of bickering back and forth, Then some real persistent guy got an answer from the Swiss gonernment. Turns out that both companies were suppliers from the beginning. He posted some copied stuff to "prove" it.

Still it doesn't seem right, 1 of them must have been first, and therefore the "original",

Maybe some one else here has a differing story, cant hurt to post it.

Wow, that's why I love these forums........

Just think, some guy contacted a foreign goverment to ask a question about knives.........I bet the Swiss rolled their eyes and thought how much damn time do those Americans have. :D

Thanks 5KNIVES!

Actually I've had to deal with the swiss a few times, always polite but I got the impression they considered us (me at least) as an undisciplned rabble, not too bright who really needed their guidance to do things like ... oh ... open doors without hurting ourselves. Pretty smug in my very limited experience. Always polite and businesslike though.

I picture some director saying something like "Herr Frankke, make up some answer for this fool so he quits botherng us!"

To be fair, The people I dealt with there were kind of Upper Level in a REALY real big multi-national company, maybe they had that view about everyone not-them. Polite but cold saya it well.

That is some interesting info.

I have a small Victorinox. My little sister bought it for me when she was overseas studying for one semester. During break, she went to Switzerland and bought me one for Christmas and had my initials engraved on it.

She knew at the time that I would be leaving for the kitty box, and wanted to get me something that I could use. Awwwww.....;)
