I've decided I'm gonna build an AR15. After reading everything I could find about the process and checking prices I think it's the way to go. My budget of $700 should get me a decent $99 lower (RRA, Eagle, Mega or Stag), a kit from J&T or Model 1, and a few mags.

Now, what kind of essential odds and ends am I gonna need to put this thing together? I have a pretty basic tool box but nothing firearm-specific. I've heard I'll need punches...can I get those at a store or will I have to order em? Any special lubricants or what not? I've already got a good supply of cleaning/maintenance stuff for my other guns.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances I'll head over to see my FFL guy on tuesday and then order all the goodies. When finished it should be a 16" CAR 15 flattop with detachable carry handle, and A2 stock and grip. Can't wait!

You can do the build you just said with a screwdriver, a couple punches, a hammer, some needle nose pliers.. and some CLP....

but for convenience... I'd suggest roll pin punches

they make driving the roll pins in FAR easier... I know this cus I've helped with a kit that did it with standard punches.. which is still possible, and one with roll pin punches(my build).. which cost like.. 15$ after shipping for all 3...

these 3 sizes of roll pin punches (3/32", 1/8", 5/32") and you can get them at brownells.com

one tip about the roll pins though is to cover your lower reciever with the plastic before driving in the pins where you could slip off and scratch it.. RRA recieveres come in a nice thick peice of plastic that do just fine.... kinda do a makeshift coverup before driving em in and it'll protect it nicely...

but other than that.. I highly reccoment J&T, and best of luck... Just remember to submit pics when you're done :)..
