What is every ones impressions of the CRKT knives?

I have no experiance with any of their knives.

I am looking at the M16-14 "Big Dog" and or the the M16-SF.

I have not seen any of these knives at the gun shows here in DFW. So therefore I have never handled/ fondled one before.

Here is the M16-SF

Optimus Prime,

I don’t own one but their M16 series is on my must have list.

I’ve been looking at them for a year or so, trying to find out as much as possible. I’ve read all the articles I can find and looked at all the catalogs. They look like a steal for the price. But none of the retailers around here carry them. Nobody I know has one.

I hate to buy one sight unseen or unfelt.

Maybe someone on the forum has had experience they can relate.

Slick tactical folder though.

I agree with ya on the Ryan. I liked it so much that I bought a couple of good clones of it to abuse around the house and at work to prevent unnecessary damage to the geniune one.

I have one and I have two complaints. First, I have a hard time keeping it sharp. I use it for general utility, but nothing that would warrant it becoming dull rather quickly. Second, in the semi-serrated versions, they only put the edge on one side.

It's great for southpaws like me.

You mean this little guy? Kinda cool concept but pretty low on the practical side. too many edges to get caught on stuff!

Neat addition to collection though!

Well, I finally got to handle an M16-14 Big Dawg yesterday and I must say I am impressed! Though, I handled it at a Texas Original Army Navy store and they wanted $80 for what others sale for under $50!

So I think I will go ahead and get an M16-14 SF Big Dawg.

Couple of new designs from CRKT. Not very stylish but kinda rugged looking. Especially the DOG. Looks like it belongs in a tool box!

LHS, Is there any outdoor activity you don't participate in? Guess I've been a couch potato too long!

Truth be told, I haven't participated in a whole lot of outdoor activities other than swordfighting and shooting for a while now, what with college taking up all my time, and now real life impinging on my fun-time.

But I used to white-water raft, hike, camp, mountain bike, hunt, fish, and do all sorts of fun stuff like that. Oh, for the joys of youth.

Ya, well...you'll be thankfull when it arrives. They are awesome knives!

San Diego was great. Hated to come back. All kinds of military exercises going on while we were there. One flat-top was already in and a Guided missle cruiser & Sub-tender came in while we were eating breakfast one morning.

Saw a SEAL para-jump & water extraction, many helo's and fixed wing flyovers. Took some pics...hope they come out.

I'm going there this weekend, but I've seen enough flattops and SEALS exercises to last me a lifetime....I grew up there.

I ordered mine through the Knifeoutlet, about the same price as what you paid. It will probably be one of those knives that I will never use (I have cheaper knives for utility purposes). It will go into the gun cabinet (until I get bored).

I love CRKT knives. They are a great knife despite the "Made in Taiwan" on the blade. But, like was mentioned above, they do go dull rather quickly with just normal use. Therefore I am constantly sharpening my carry knife. They do take a razor edge quickly, it just doesn't last as long as my other knives. I love the design so I live with it. I have yet to find a perfect carry knife that I can afford (<$100).

That is very true..

My Voyager rarely needs sharpened, my CRKT Crawford Kasper usually does...

If any of you even think about getting a CRKT look into the M16-13sf. You can literally open it before its totally out of your pocket. It has what looks like finger gaurds that doubles as a one hand opener. Puls it has a dual lock making it technically a straight blad that can not be closed. Its a tanto balded with half seration. I have had it for 2 years went to baghdad with me great knife.

I'm suprised that it can't keep an edge. The knife has an AUS-8 blade...isn't that supposed to be a pretty good grade of stainless steel?

azreloader
07-22-2004, 07:43 PM
Yeah, the Ryan and the Crawford Caspers are made with AUS 6, which would explain the difference. The M16's are made with AUS 8.

AZreloader,
You probably have not used your blade enough to find out how it holds an edge. I would imagine with AUS8 steel, that it would have great edge retention.

My M16-14M should be waiting for me on my doorstep when I get home from work tonight.

I doubt mine will ever get enough use to dull the edge. It sits in a nice wooden box with the rest of my collection. I just like to collect quality items....knives, guns, duck calls, duck decoys.

I will only take mine out of the gun case when I want to play "pirate" in front of the mirror! LOL! ;)

My day to day utility knife is a Gerber EZ out with a 3.5 inch blade. That's the knife that is getting all the wear and tear at my job and when I go outdoors.

I'm going to guess that is a guided missle cruiser. I don't see the phased-array radar antenna, so it's probably not an Aegis Class.

Well, my knife didn't come in last night. Maybe I'll get it today.

Yep, nuthin better than new steel. I went shopping for a tutorial on knife fighting. I bought a book titled "street steel" from Amazon. The author is supposed to be pretty knowledgable. I figure that if I'm going to have a tactical knife, I might as well know a few attacks and defenses.
