Here's a picture of the Sword I had made by the Armorer that makes swords for Medieval Re-enactors. The blade is made from spring steel and the two-hand grip is made from Ironwood.

I put the Ka-Bar in there for scale reference.

That sword, is one beautiful piece of steel. Do you use it for re-enacting?

No, It has a home on the wall above my reloading bench.
Black Forest Armory. Good stuff, that's one of their wallhanger-grade swords. They're as functional as the reenactor-grade stuff, but IMHO too pretty to ding up on Wednesday nights at the park. My only criticism, really, is that the tangs are a little skimpy for my taste.

You got it. I like the tangs for what I got it for which was display. If I were using it for any practical purpose, I would want more knuckle protection though.:rotflmao:

By tang, I mean the metal of the blade that goes into the hilt, not the little half-moon quillions ;)
My Black Forest cutlass has a knucklebow, which I've found to be both a bane and a boon. It's a boon because it blocks shots and keeps my gauntlets from getting too dinged up, but it's a bane because I have to essentially lock it on my gauntlet, which prevents me from drawing it and getting it in hand quickly.

Thank you sir, for correcting my terminology. I am of the belief that the Sin lies not in being ignorant, but in staying that way.
You are obviously a knowledgeable practitioner as well as collector of the blade.
I am but a neophyte, but I'm always looking to learn more. You should swing out to the east side of Encanto Park (15th Ave, just north of McDowell) on Wednesday nights around 7:00 or so. The SCA fights there, as does my group (HMR). We fight either lightly armored with rapiers, or full steel harness with heavy weapons. You can learn a lot, and have a blast. If you get the urge to drop by, look for the smaller group to the south of the SCA, and to the north of the nutjobs with foam Donkey Kong hammers.
Look for the guy in blue armor.

Yes. Maille byrnie, brigandine gorget, plate helm, plate pauldrons, plate arms, plate 3/4 legs, clamshell gaunts, and a wicked two-hander called Templar's Bane.

Some the idea of wearing that in NC's summer is scarey.. ;)
That is a unique interest and my compliments.

If you think NC's nasty, you should try it out here with me in Phoenix  I've given serious thought to having someone design a friggin' air conditioning unit on the back of my hauberk ;)

LHS,how much does all that armor weigh and why is it blue?:)
The full suit weighs about 70 lbs or so, I'd guess. I never actually stepped on a scale with it on.
It's blue for two reasons. First, blue is one of my heraldic colors, and if it's painted it won't rust if I'm lax in polishing it.
Although, for a real anachronism, when I go home I generally wear the maille because it's easier to wear it up the stairs than carry it. I generally slip my pistol and holster on my sword belt for the drive home (Encanto Park is pretty notorious for homey-gangsta-thugz types), so I look pretty formidable with two swords and a .45 ;)

Dude,
That's way cool. To old to do it myself now, but sure enjoy watching.
Would hate to subject my pretty baby to that kind of punishment!:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Those Black Forest blades will take it, but you'll definitely pop its cherry and put some dings in it, especially the soft quillions. Still, it's nice to know that your wall-hanger will kick ass if necessary, unlike some 'battle ready' crapola that was hammered out on a rock in Pakistan out of an old Gremlin fender.
