I have a fella who's wanting to get rid of a colt sporter match hbar. It has the birdcage type flash hider but no bayo lug. How can I tell if this is preban or postban? It looks an awful lot like the new MT6601C models. Very hard to tell, especially since I am unfamiliar with AR-15s. He said it was made in 94 right before the ban. How can I be 100% sure? What really makes me leary is that he first said it was an A2. Wouldn't A2 be stamped on the receiver someplace right after "Colt" or "Sporter" or something? At least all the other A2 prebans I've seen were stamped as such. Here are some pics he sent me:

Thanks for your help!

Colt made preban rifles from around 90-94 with the A2 FS and no bayo lug. Its refered to as the Blue label rifle. Its basically the rifle they sell now without a FS. Check inside the receiver for a sear block.

Check the serial numbers here

The rifle does not need to be stamped A2.
A2 represents the upgraded adjustable sights as the pictured rifle has.

Additionally, A2 is a means of differentiating between the A2 fixed carry handle uppers and A3 removable carry handle type upper receivers.
