The guys at Cold Steel did some extensive testing with different Karambits and found them not as effective as other blade styles. They published their findings in one of their recent catalogs as the Karambit style knives are quickly becoming a fad.

I've never been fond of them either, as I am of the opinion that the longest reach is best in a knife fight. I've survived one real knife fight, and I fight with dulled rapiers and longswords on a weekly basis. All else being equal, the guy with the best reach will most likely win. The reverse grip, and the short little karambit, are not conducive to this philosophy.

Thanks for the info guys. Just saved me a bunch of money.... I still think they are cool from a collectors standpoint. maybe I can find a cheap copy of one
