Howdy,

Thought I'd throw out a contribution to this new forum. I've had an intrest in bladed weapons long before I got into firearms. In particular the art of crafting them fascinates me even more than their use. I've dabbled in forging but am yet to have a good work area where I can actually take it seriously (meaning I havn't made anything but misshapen steel). But I do continue to study the craft on a recreational academic level.

Anyway, in the blacksmith community one of the legends is Daryl Meier who does things with pattern welded steel most people wouldn't think possible.

For President George H.W. Bush's innaguration the Governor of Illinois comissioned Mr. Meier to make a pattern welded bowie for the President as a gift. The results continue to blow my mind every time I look at them.
