1. Doberman, or the likes, running full gallop to attack you. (an uppercut style thrust while protecting self with forearm)
2. When being wrestled on the ground. (possibly tackled from behind)
3. Within arms length of assailant. (directly into lower throat, gut, groin in order)

Do you have anyother times you would select a knife or do you not agree with me at all, just some thoughts.

I would take my 2" .38 for everything you said over any knife. However there are times a knife is the tool needed.

Taking out a sentry.
Making a boby trap.
Unarming a boby trap.
Removeing a splinter.
Open a c-rat can.
Yup, lot of things a knife comes in handy for.

After much thought I believe I would almost always choose a knife over a firearm for the following purposes:

Peeling Potatos

Spreading peanut butter

Stirring my Coffee

Opening a bag of Pretzels

Emergency tracheotomy

Slicing Tomatos

Gutting and skining small furbearing animals

Trimming ornamental plants

Making fuzz sticks for campfires

Dividing Pizza into manageable pieces

Opening mail

Cleaning fish

and others to numerous to mention.

For self defense under any condition where a fly swatter would be inadequate, I'm known to favor handguns whose caliber starts with a 4, and shotguns whose gauge is 12.

Just one mans opinion of course.

Q-gunner2,

You're absolutely right !

Plus toasting marshmellows.

I'm so embarrassed at my lack of careful thought, I think I'll put the bottle of Bombay Saphire and the jar of olives back in the cupboard and go to bed now !

(I was so sure I had all the bases covered)

HEY, wait, I said "almost always", I'm not really so far off after all.

And I can use my SKS to get those last 2 olives out of this jar too. Well, maybe I'll have just one more drink. to celebrate my new found self esteem .
Never stirred a Martini with an SKS before !

I dunno, 5KNIVES, I was watching "The Way of the Gun" today, and I thought the doc did a wondrous emergency tracheotomy on Taye Diggs with his pistol.

Okay, Okay take tracheotomy off the list.

Whine, whine (I said ALMOST Always !)

FWIW, FP-10 makes Martinis taste funny.
