Howdy Gang!

This topic needs a little background, I'll try to make it short.

About 30 years ago I realized that when I went to gut a deer (Thats all the LAW will let you do in the field in Wisconsin) that when I slit the belly, those darn deer hairs were really doing a "dulling" job on my carefully sharpened knives, then I had to finish the job with either a different knife or the now dull one. It bugged me a lot.

Opening some boxes with a utility knife (you know the one, replaceable blades) about 15 years ago, I wondered how that little blunt end, curved blade (inside curve edge) would work on Bambi. Outfitted my self that year and it worked like a charm. Like Bambi came with a zipper. I took a LOT of ribbing from the gang of ill-mannered outlaws I usually hunt with, but within another year or two, guys were asking to borrow it. I've used it ever since, the only thing I didn't like was the bulk, it took up more room than a "real" knife.

I noticed about a year ago that dealers were marketing the "Superknife", a folder that used those same replaceable blades, I didn't buy one because it looked "gimmickey" and bulky too me.

Earlier this month Eknifeworks had a special on a Schraed version of the "Superknife" for only $10.00. Figuring that for that price I'd get some use, and if not I could always give it to one of my nephews (they'll take anything thats free) I ordered one.

Been using it for 2 weeks now, and it's become indispensible to me. Small, decent pocket clip, compact, one-hand opening (if youre right handed), all the daily chores you don't want to damage a good blade on. If you damage this one, so what, turn the blade around and use the other half. Or spring for the $.50 and put in a new blade.

I REALLY like this little bugger. And this fall it WILL be going hunting with me (with the boxcutter curved blade). I've ordered 2 more.

Probably have to change my name to 6knives !

Yeah, I saw one of those at the last pistol match I went to. Looked like a neat idea, and when I was working in a stock room I was seriously considering one.

I saw 'em at a shopping mall, being sold by a vendor from a little cart. I thought it was just a glorified case cutter, but it'd probably be good to use in situations where you don't wanna damage or dirty your nice knives.

What I've found indispensable in game, and come to think of it--cooking is the rapala fillet knife.
Sharpens up w/just some spit and any stone in a snap.

Works quite well at cutting the meat off the bones of large animals.

Real good point 284,

My preferred boning knife. Always thought that in a real survival situation, a guy with his rapala fish knife would be in very good shape.

I have that very same knife by Schraed, used it when I use to work in a major hunting/fishing store. I did alot of freight, so it came in real handy with the boxes. Also the chicken shit outfit I worked for did not allow employees to carry pocket knives due to fear of lawsuits........go figure. The company had a written policy that they would fire any one caught with a knife, so I bought one of the super knives at a Home Depot for $9.99 and SOBs could'nt complain cause it was a "box cutter"!

Sorry Azreloader, no pics and wouldn't know how to post them if I had them. I know a search for "superknife" at

www.eknifeworks.com

will get you a picture. Only thing I'm not certain of is the way they secure the blade, that's an awfully small screw, whether allen or phillips head. Looks to me like it would be very easy to lose if you needed to change blades in the field.

Optimus Prime, yes sir, I like your attitude. I always chose to be very agreeable, say "Sure, no problem" and then keep on doing things my way.

Probably acounts for all the different jobs I had during my working years. It did take some of the power hungry egotistical idiots an AWFUL long time to figure what I was doing though! (grin)

Found em......ugly things, but I can see how they'd be a step up from a garden variety box cutter!

Ugly, but functional. Better to beat the hell out of a $10 knife than a $100 knife.

Roger that, after extensive use, I have found that the opening action becomes loose.

Optimus Prime,

Looked to me like that mght be a problem also, did you get that funny little round spanner with yours? I think it's supposed to be used to tighten that joint up, if so how does it work in the real world?

My first one came with one of them, the other 2 did not. Haven't used mine near enough to loosen it yet.

5KNIVES , mine did not come with the spanner. If I were to get off my lazy hine quarters and dig it out of my closet I bet I could tighten her right up with a allen wrench! ;)

I hate anything that needs tools that dont come on a SAK or a Leatherman Supertool. Those are the only ones I can ever find, and I must have at least 2 of everything by now. I still cant find anything. Well, I can always find the neat little combo tool that wilson combat makes for the 1911. But only because it's chained to my range box.

The first knife I got had the spanner thing and an allen head set screw. The 2 new ones have a set screw needing a smaller phillips head than I've ever seen before, and no spanner. I don't have good feelings about the new ones.

Still real handy though, as long as they last anyhow.

Have a great Fourth of July
