I'm new to Enfields and have a couple questions. Does any one know any body who has any good deals on take-off barrels? And will No.1 & No.4 barrels enterchange? What the difference in the mags between the two? Please excuse my ignorance. :o

You can try Numrich or Sarco for barrels. No 1 qand No4 barrels are not the same. Even the thickness is different as the No4 is a bit stiffer and heavier duty IIRC. Don't believe there is a difference in the mags, at least as far as function.

What type of rifle is it? No1MKIII or No4MK1?

I was wondering how they went on myself.

I have a no4mk1 with a canted front sight.

To fix this, I was told to turn the barrel by locking it in a vice and turn the reciever by puting a 2x4 or something in it and use the wood for leverage.

Guess there is no pin to lock the barrel in place then right?

No the barrel is not pinned Gonzo. I would suggest using an action wrench and a barrel vise though for that operation, thats expensive however unless you know a smith or someone who has the action wrench, vise and bushings. All that cost me about $300.

If the barrel is not in correctly it will definately cant the front sights.

Anyway its not pinned so if you have decent instructions on how to turn it some more this way have at it.

You'll definately want to pad the barrel in the vise using some oak blocks cut to the contour and also some rosin. You will want some rosin to help keep the barrel from slipping in the vise and getting marred, oak blocks are the best way to go along with some rosin. That stuff really helps keep a grip. If you are too lazy for the opak blocks you can buy lead shims at Brownells but those will twist apart like bubble gum, you really need some sort of bushing to protect the barrel.
