Well Joe,

I guess this would be my choice. The edges are rounded enough to make extraction from a pocket effortless and the combo edge blade makes it useful for a number of different applications.

This model is no longer made by CRKT (at least I can't find it on any website, not even their own)

I'm partail to the Benchmade Mini-Stryker myself. I had the 905SBT until about 3 weeks ago. I seem to have lost it :( I had this knife for about 5 years, it's been a great knife.

Currently I carry Cold Steel and Benchmade folders with clips, generally cliped to my right pocket. I am, how ever going to replace those with a CRKT M-16 14SF.

Hard to beat a Gerber EZ-Out, for the price. Or a CRKT mini-Kasper. Both ride in my pocket on a fairly regular basis, as does my Benchmade Stryker.

I've carried the Spyderco "Wegner" folder(one on the right) for a number of years now. Its a good, solid, well made knife that keeps a good edge. So far, its one of the few that I've found that has a blade design that can work well as a daily chore knife and also fill the bill as a combat folder.

I have been carrying A kershaw vapor lately. The only downside I see to it is it's only righthanded.

Spyderco Native is my #1 choice. I use it at least once a day.

I like my Kershaw! I believe it's the Chive 1600 model; got it on eBay for about $20. :D

All of them are good, some will work better for you..

I regularly carry either a CS Voyager or a CRKT Crawford-Kasper. Both work well for me.. Those that are familar with them know their orientation in the pocket is very different..

To me, about the only "fatal flaw" in a folder is something that blocks my thumb from resting on the spine.

It is such an individual choice. You really just have to find your own balance between cost, design, material quality, etc. But probably the most important factor is how it rides in your pocket and if it is easy for you to operate.

My own personal favorite in the <$100 range is the CRKT M-16 03Z. It was cheap (~$50), has a decent blade, can be easily operated with one hand, and can take a razor edge very quickly. I can have it out of my pocket and open ready for use in about a second or less. Why pay for a switchblade?

I'm an avid collector of combat knives... and save for the extraordinarily overpriced ones (see masters of defense knives for this), there are few that I would carry.

To date though, any Spyderco that fits your hand will never let you down. I have about 8 different ones... my favorite Spyderco being the Dodo. Ugly as sin, but an amazing tool. :D

As my everyday beater???

Dig around on eBay for a Kershaw "blackout" with the combo edge. AMAZING knife for the money... and with the speedsafe opening, it keeps the knife in the housing if a kid gets ahold of it, but after a few minutes of practice, the thing may as well be a switchbalde. ;)

(Besides, I'm all about supporting the good ol' USA, as all the Kershaw's are made here...) :D

I like the Spyderco knives. They are thin so you can still get your hand in and out of your pocket easily. They are also light so it's not a pain to carry, my Endura is a big MoFo but it takes up less room in my pocket than a mid sized stockman. It also get's a razors edge without much effort, and keeps it amazingly well. I also like the new Kershaw's. I had to try one of the CRKT knives so I picked up a M16-02Z yesterday. I will post how she does, but she is a little wide compared to my Spyderco, and I must say the thumb studs are serviceable, but I prefer the hole design of the Spyderco. I do like the CRKT opening "stud" on the underside of the blade, so far I've been most impressed with this innovation.

My desk is covered in manilla folders and paper clips.
I hate them all.

As a tractor mechanic and ranch hand I use the Benchmade knifes, I also have a few of the CRKT models. The steel in the CRKT ones are a little to soft for my use so I prefer the steel in the Benchmades. Most of the Cowboys who work the cows use Eye Brand single blade folders, but the way I use a knife as a tool ie; cutting barb wire, battery cables, hydraulic hose's, and other things that most people don't cut with a knife.
There was one time I used my Benchmade 830 and a 24oz. Ball peen hammer to cut a 5/8" winch cable on a John Deere 450 dozer, All it did was roll the edge on the blade. A few passes on the DMT steel and it was back to normal again.
So I guess in a nut shell I prefer the Benchmades!

If I was going to carry just one knife it would be the Spyderco Military in S30V or if you find a deal on an older one in 440V.

For a utility knife, I carry a V-Tech. Quite inexpensive at 40 bucks or so, but really tough and it holds an edge very well. Finely checkered aluminum grip scales, and titanium nitride black blade coating.

Very strong construction, too.

I favor my Spyderco Lil' Temprance (leaf point) for serious intent, but carry a large Spyderco Wegner as an every day work knife.

CRKT M-16SF

Quick, Functional and built to last. Have never thought about buying another "working" knife.
