local shop has a 1913 carl gustaf m38 with very good bluing. bore is very clean and sharp. wood is lower end of good. receiver, bolt, bands, floor plate are matching. is it worth $275? me thinks yes. now, there appears to be some kind of cap on the muzzle? covering the threads. also, the rear sight is very intricate looking. a target sight i guess? any ideas? thanks, gents.

You're describing a 96/38 short rifle with the Naval sight I'm thinking. Flat disk with markings on it that runs horizontal to the barrel. Look for a small Viking ship on the sight, which is where it gets the name Naval sight.

How about the buttplate does it match the receiver, etc.? If so yes I think it's worth the $275 price.

The muzzle is threaded and they do have a thread protector cap that screws on to protect them. These rifles were threaded oritinally to use a blank adaptor which was a heavy walled device to catch and shread a wooden bullet, there version of a blank round. Take that bullet catcher off and you could kill somebody quite easily out to probably 100 meters with a wooden bullet. There are also flash hiders available for these threaded muzzle rifles.

I have a 96/38 in my collection, it was the first C&R that I ever purchased. A favorite for sure. ;)
