new follower would be my guess, but I think they work with standard green followers.. but personally if i was gonna stick something other than a 5.56 in a 5.56 mag.. It'd be with a new magpul follower.... I heard those work exceptionally well with the .458 SOCOMs which look OH so tempting .... man I'd want one of them over a 6.8mm....

500 grain projectile.. now thats a hunk of lead :D

but.. from everything i've heard.. one of the main reasons the cartridge was accepted for possible adaption was due to the fact it could fit in existing mags and mag wells.... that and it was everything they needed a cartridge to be as far as ballistics were concerned

i was concidering a 6.8 upper from model 1 as an alternate shooter just switch back and forth between 5.56 and 6.8. i was wondering about mags. if i dont hjave to do any mods that would be great as id hate to buy a bunch of lebelles jsut to cut on them maybe modify some used orlites?

Unfortunatly, half way thru testing they desided that the 6.8 will need its own purpose builkt mags because the stock 5.56 mag reinforcment grooves are too deep, limiting capacity to only 15 rounds of 6.8 in a 30 round 5.56 mag. Plus, it is too curved. They have since designed a purpose-built mag for the 6.8.

still doesn't stop a person from using an existing 30 round mag and using it as a 15 round 6.8.. but if theres 6.8 mags readily available post-sunset.. then.... shit.. go for those
