Check my other posts in this forum for problems that I have had with my early M96 that I bought from a guy that said he bought it new and never fired it. The lack of carbon on the gas piston/operating rod and tube either prove he was honest, or one super cleaner.

Anyway, the latest: I called Robinson and spoke to BJ. He confirmed that my rifle was one of the first sold, and assured me that replacing the operating rod with the new design would solve all the problems that I was having. He also ran a computer check on my serial number and told me that I should replace the bolt carrier assembly with the updated one. Super nice guy to deal with on the phone.

For a total of $60 shipped, I got the new op. rod and bolt and carrier assembly. I sent them my old parts last Friday and received the new parts today. GREAT SERVICE!!!.

The new rod is much stronger than the old one, which in my rifle was already cracking after only a couple of hundred rounds, if even that many. The parts went together much better than the old ones, and the action is smoother. With any luck, on Sunday I will see how nice it really is.

Now if they can only get their VEPRs back on the market!

What happend to the VEPR's? Did they stop making them?

They either were having import problems, or were so busy with their government contracts that the VERPs were put on the back burner. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that our all knowing government tried to block the importation of the VEPRs.
