Hello Gentlemen.....

Today, I purchased a Bushmaster XM15 E2S. It's been 35yrs since I've handled an M16 type rifle, so I might bombard you with a string of FNG questions....If you don't mind!

First question: I see that the front sight post is factory set to about .275" height. The Bushmaster factory setting calls for a height of 5mm......or about .197". Is this normal?

Does Bushmaster have a way to set the factory sights that may vary from the setting called for on the test target supplied with the rifle?

Q#2: How do you adjust the front sight post anyway? Is there a special tool to do this? I can push on the plunger OK, but don't see how to rotate the sight post.

You probably already know this, but my rifle has the A2 square post type front sight.

DPMS sells a good little tool for adjusting the front site post but I usually loose them and end up using a nail. You are supposed to be able to use a bullet but when these rifles are new, the front site is a little tight, and hard to adjust. My suggestion would be just use a nail.
If you go to the Maryland AR15 Shooters web site you will see "zeroing methods" or something to that effect. Click on that and it will give you instructions on different ways to zero your rifle. I used to do the Army 25 meter zero until I read about the Santose Improved Battlesite Zero. You should try it. It turns your AR into a very flat shooter.
Good luck.
