well i know this is off topic, but i have already bought an ak and now i want an olympic arms CAR-97 ar-15....i just figured some of you guys own one or know somthing about them....they are chambered in .223 right? they retail for 780 dollars....any comments or complaints????? thanks.....

Really, I would recommend the Bushmaster XM15 E2S 20 inch HBAR from Aim Surplus for $699. I have one and it has been so reliable and accurate as to be boring.

Jeez!! Give the guy a break! Many of us have "both." I do, and I am very loyal to my AKs. . .maybe to much so. Last Sat. I was in a regular IDPA tactical rifle match. I used my Colt M-4 on one 50 yd, 13 target stage, and my SAR 3 with a PSO 6 x 24 scope for the "precision" stage. (hit two 4" squares of steel at about 100 yds.

I left work early on Fri to get to the range to sight in both the M-4 and the SAR 3. Well, If I had chosen my tools with my head instead of my heart, I would have gotten 1 st place in the rifle stages, instead of 4th.

I swept through the 13 target stage with two tightlly placed headshots each, but the "precision stage" took me longer than I care to admit to nail both steels twice. In my SAR 3s defense, perhaps if I ever get around to lapping or re-crowning it, it will work as well as the AR, but untill then. . . I tried the stage again off the scoresheet, and the AR with a Kobra optic and '47-style brake on it (hey, I can't let all things Russian go at once) nailed the two steels in rapid succession, but too late for my score.


So. . .let the guy get his AR. They are good tools for certain jobs. I love all my rifles, or I sure wouldn't have bought them. It's all just tools and technology to me. The right tool for the right job. Lighten up guys.

Yep,

Olympic is the reason that 7.62*39 was classified as a pistol round by BATFE and subsequently subject to regulation, price increases and lower effectiveness in the US (bastards did it on purpose if you ask me). If you must have a Stoner-action rifle I would suggest Bushmaster on principal.

I wouldn't buy or own an Olympic Arms rifle even if that's the last rifle available in the world. If you want a Stoner Rifle, get a Bushmaster.

Buy an older Colt, Blue Label or go "BUSHMASTER" !

You will be much happier.

Though with the AK there are basically 2 reasons they quit working. You are out of ammo or just plain dead! ! !

I have owned 2 Oly arms and never had a problem with them. There customer service sucks and the quality is not really top notch. I see them at every local show and there useless if you want any info. I think my next AR will be a RRA.

You can all throw all the olympic ARs my way. I have had one since 85. Have shot thousands or rounds through it never had a problem from it ever. I also have a Colt and Bushmaster and can tell no difference between them. Get over Olympic being the reason steel core 7.62x39 ammo was banned. If you look at proformance differences between steel core and lead core they are about the same. Steel core does not penatrate any better than lead. Those countrys only used steel because it was cheeper than lead.

I get so tired of all this "My gun's better than yours, your company sucks" garbage. I don't know the history of this debate and don't really care who-did-what-to-whom. The question was about quality, and My Oly works just fine. No complaints of any kind. I've heard people brag on their Bushy's, and I've heard people say they were junk. Makes me wonder what to believe on this board, everyone seems so acrimonious!

This is a crock of horse shit. I own both OLy arms and colt and both are fine weapons, but if you want to pay an over inflated price for JUST an upper then go ahead and get a colt product. :buttkick: Check out SAW . They will be glad to take you money.

Never knew having a personal opinion on something was a crime! I have always shot AR's and base my opinion on the OLY's that I have had to work on because of the very things that others have mentioned even here. Quality, and Customer Service. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion of OLY's and I sure am not not going to say other wise.

You are entitled to your point of view so let it rest with that! No need to have even brought this up again. This board is full of very courteous folks, guess you are not one of them. Sorry about your anger but take it else where. It has no place on this board as far as I can see.
