Hi all, part of this is copied from my original RRA, which was posted under the General AR15 Discussion Forum. I figuared maybe having a range report for a Rock River rifle in the Rock River Arms Forum might be a good thing. I am also including some updates from my last few trips to the range.

Old Report:
Finally got my RRA rifle, took just over 4 weeks (not as bad as the expected 6 weeks). I ordered the Entry Tactical Model with CAR Stock, Hogue grips, and free float quad rail handguards. It is the "R4" model as it has the chrome lined chamber and barrel. It worked out that this model had all the features I wanted and cost alot less (more money for ammo!).

First Impressions: Fit and Finish were fantastic. The gun store owner and I even compared it to several other AR-15s (makes, models, etc will be nameless to prevent a flame war on who is better....this is just my report on RRA). The fit and finish was equal to or superior to the other rifles in the store.

That Night: Take down, cleaned, and oiled. HeHe, put all the other toys on it. For right now that is an Eotech sight, Magpul XT rail covers, rear sling thing, and Giles sling. Still need to get BUIS and Vertical Forarm Grip (on back order).

Range Test: Using Federal ammo only and 5 brand new USGI magazines, there were no malfunctions or stoppages of any kind for 400 rounds. First 100 rounds were for sighting in Eotech sight (ok, that only took about 12 rounds) and benchrest shooting out to 100 yards. At 100 yards I had several 5 shot groups that were 1/2 inch or less. Needless to say the rifle is capable of much greater accuracy than the shooter. Of course, with much more ammo, maybe I can come close.

The next 300 rounds were from various positions and various ranges, including 3 in a row "empty the 30 round magazine as fast as you can." The quad rail handguards and the rail covers kept barrel heat to almost none at all. During "double-tap" and "triple-tap" drills, the Eotech sight made a big difference in speed and accuracy. The Giles Sling and Rail Covers made a difference in the "move and shoot" drills. The rail covers made my front grip very comfortable and sure.

Update:
My friends and I have put the rifle through several weekend toruture tests (ie. combat style shooting, rapid fire, etc.) with no malfunctions. Several of my friends have "fallen in love" with my RRA and are either saving up cash to get one or going behind the wife's back and ordering one (hehe, when his wife finds out, he will need a good combat rifle :D )

This rifle is so easy to shoot, that my little sister (who is barely 5 foot) shot it. She has never shot a rifle before, let alone a high powered assault rifle. Her first 3 shots at 50 yards were bullseyes. She is now a follower in the "Evil Black Rifle Society."

This last weekend I decided to go an accuracy test, due to a debate concerning chrome barrel accuracy. I took the EoTech sight off and put one of my other rifles (Leopald 3 x 9) scope on the RRA. Once I sighted the new scope in, it was shooting through the same hole on the target. The largest group I had at 100 yards was a 4 shot .25 inch. All of the 3 shot groups were smaller, almost through the same hole (hey I can reuse those targets ;) ) Put the EoTech sight back on and re sighted in......really only an excuse to keep shooting rifle.

As of 8/29/04 my rifle has 1000 rounds through it with no malfunctions. I have been shooting Federal ammo only , so I am going to stick to it (yep time to order another 1000 rounds).

I have to say I am very satisfied with my RRA rifle.

yeah I had a RRA CAR 16 and it was a really great rifle.
If I didn't need the cash for other projects I would have kept it.
the thing that impressed me the most was the fit and finish of the whole thing. it was so nice as to be almost custom build quality.
