Yes, and Yes. I got it from some Canadian troops on a NATO exercise in Northern Italy. Man, that was forever ago.

That would be a Canadian Thermold also known as thermelts by many because of soft feed lips that are rumored to melt on full auto fire.Though many say its not as bad as many people say.I do not own any of those mags but I do own some American thermolds that I really like and used for some time without any problems.

"Thermelts" was probably more due the fact that the stripper clips (also made by Thermold and of plastic) issued to the Canadian troops is also a fire starting device. Made to burn easily. Dunno abt the mag starter or the mag itself. Doubt they would do so to the mag as it's right there kinda near the chamber... They also issued the SAW version of the M16A2, with a hvy bbl and bipod. I assume using this as a SAW would indeed melt some thermolds. Wrong weapon for that roll, far as I'm concerned. A 249 is what you want.
