Wow!
Detachable carry handles at Tapco are only 31.99!
They may not be that good of a deal, but they are around 75.00 from RRA!!!

In an effort to keep my XYL from having a hissy fit when she sees the credit card bill after spending WAY too much money on my new M4orgery, I ordered a carry handle from Tapco. Well, it came in today. Here is my impression.
First, the finish is beautiful. Anodized black and very even.
Ok that is the good stuff. Now for the bad. It appears to be cast as I can see the mold marks from either the sprue or from the vents. The rear site is not in spec. The windage knob has a lot of end play and the elevation knob is very poorly marked and completely round as opposed to having the 8/3 marking on the flat. And it is very hard to turn. The elevation knob is numbered from 1 to 10 very lightly.
I tried to put my ARMS scope mount on it and it would not even come close to dropping in the channel. The hole in the carry handle channel is oval side to side. I didn't try to put it on the rifle.
It is made in China so I suspect that it MAY be an Airsoft handle.
It is going back tomorrow.
I was VERY disappointed in the handle. I expected better quality from Tapco.
This handle would be good for Airsoft only. I would not trust the site to stay where it is put.
Save your money and buy a good carry handle.
I thought about just replacing the rear site assembly but I would have as much money tied up in a cheapo handle that would not accept my scope mount. So I am going to spend the money and get one that is in spec.
A place near me (S.E. PA) has colt detachable handles for $50 USED, and $75 NEW.
I bought one, chopped it into a detachable BUIS, and im getting another soon to just keep as a carry handle. Cant beat $50 for somthing you are about to chop in half.

Even if its for airsoft, what were you expecting to shoot with iron sights? sub-MOA at 100yd to 200yd? (I'm not trying to ridicule anyone here, just asking a serious question).
I have the Tapco handle on order - I have an A4 upper that I plan to shoot with a scope anyhow, but I wanted the handle because its the cheapest way to get an A2 rear sight... I wanted to shoot iron sights just to get the authentic M16/AR feeling.

NO! But I was expecting at least for the quality to be as good as it could be. I wouldn't trust the rear site to be accurate for much more than about 30 feet!
And if i HAD to depend on it, well let's just say that I wouldn't trust my life to it.
I have a very expensive rifle and I was going to put a cheap handle on it. Nope not now. I will spend the money and get a good one.

As long as it shoots within mil-spec (was it 4.8" at 100yd?) it's good enough for me.
I'd trust my VEPR K over the AR15 if my life depended on it. The AR15 uses cheezy expensive throw-away tin foil mags and slinky springs. It shakes and rattles like its about to fall apart and the hand guards are very loose.
People complain about AKs and to tell you the honest truth, my VEPR K is solid as a rock and the ONLY thing that "rattles" is the bolt in the closed position because it does not have locking lugs. It's not as accurate as the AR but then again the question was what I'd use if in a life threatening situation.
I bought my AR for target shooting at long ranges.

I have the TAPCO handle on my M4 and after a few adjustments, I was walking pop cans all over the hillside at 140yds. Good enough for me!

Yep that's what I ended up getting.
The only gripes I have is the Long Range aperture is rather large or is it my imagination? I remember in training I couldn't see the two wings of the FSB...
And the other is the index wheel is marked 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 instead of 6/3, 4, etc...

Never had any Military experience so I don't have anything to compare it to, only that I'm happy with it. Actually it has a new home. Got a RD Scope for the M4 and put the Handle on my 20"HBAR!

If it's cast, just don't drop it. You might hear a "Tink" if you do, similar to what one may hear if one drops a weapon that has a cast front sight.
Tink!
