I am thinking about a .223 rifle to add to my colection. I want a nice one that is very reliable and will not have to run 1000 rds through it to get all the kinks worked out. Is the M-96 the gun? I am very concerned about it being durable and not finiky with ammo. I like the fact that it uses ar mags.

I've heard good and bad. The good are real good, the bad are just like any other...
BTW, I must be lucky. My Bushy M4 ran it's first 1200 rounds with no malfunctions and no cleaning. ;)

I love my M96 Recon. I only have about 300 rounds through it right now. Ive got a short rail coming so I can mount an optic. Ive never had a jam, FTF, or anything go wrong with it. I love the adjustable gas system too! RA has good wararanty also. The only bad thing about the rifle is the price!

I also have an M96 in the Bren configuration and I love it! I would have to say that it is my favorite 223 to shoot. I have had no problems with mine at all. I agree with what the others have said about the price though. Regardless of price, the pennies are being save to get a Recon version.
Good luck and happy shooting!

Warning, don't shoot an M96! It will ruin you forever, and you will no longer like AR-15s!!!

PS, have one, am thrilled with it, and Robinson's customer service is great!!!

Well, I hate to be the lone dissenter, but....I've owned two and could not have been more dissapointed. One was an early model, one was late model Recon. Very handsome rifles, and I really wanted to like them, but they were fragile, and finincky. Parts breakage, barrel came off the M96, sights were way off, and ammo sensitive. They lose value when you go to sell or trade them. Do a lot of research before you buy. I've dumped those and love the ARs, no comparison in my opinion. I certainly would not bet my life on one.

I just read an article in SGN and was thinking about calling the two dealers in my area, one of whom is my regular transfer dealer and armorer for my rifle club to see what kind of a price I could get on an Expeditionary Rifle. What's dealer price on these things?
