I have an upper receiver, flat top, got it from a store new, but I'd like to identify the manufacturer.

The only thing on the upper at all is an "M" on the front of the reciver, right above the delta rings and on the flat top front.

Is this model 1?

How can you identify Vulcan uppers, for future reference? I know they are plastic...but is it obvious when you hold/touch/manipulate them? I've not seen one as of yet, and I'm sure damn hoping this isn't one!

There are no stripes on the brass deflector, but I've noticed that not all vulcans have that...

The M marking usually indicates Colt or Colt subcontract (Diemaco, canadian) manufacture. Vulcan makes both the kevlar (plastic) uppers, and uses standard commercial-manufacture aluminum uppers.
