Has anyone come out with a red dot with similar features but not as expensive as the Aimpoint M2 or Comp, for those of us on a budget?

I like my Hakko tacpoint very much. Hoping to shoot with it this weekend. Classes have been kicking my ass and the weather sucks. But maybe this weekend.

RJ, you spoke of a "muzzle side signature" on that thread.. Mine doesnt do that. I never checked until now and i cant make it do what your pic shows. I guess you got screwed. :D

When the dot is turned on, you can't look inside the front of the optic and see the LED lit up inside the housing? That's muzzle-side signature...

If AimPoint's do it, yours does too. ;)

front of it.... i didnt know you had to look from the front... either you didnt say that or i didnt read that.. lol

Big deal, if your target sees it its prolly too late for him anyway..

My Aimpoit dosent have an LED signature unless it is turned to the highest (level 10, extra bright) setting, and you cant see it unless your nose in within 5" and your inside in normal lighting. When you get outside, you cant see it period.

Damn Daledoe, you ARE a slow learner arnt you! Im surprised you dont try to use the barrel as a stock! :rotflmao: :D

I have to admit that was one of my dumber moments. But hey, as I said, school drains your mental capicity like nothing else. Give me a break. :D

Wait till you get to college if you arent already. Its a little different then high school. Its actually less work, but the work is more important and if you skip any of it it significantly affects your grade. LIke 1 letter. Can miss a lot in HS and still get A's.

Well, shot the AR today with the Hakko Tacpoint on it. I have to say im thoroughly pleased with it. Took about 9 shots to sight in and out to 200 yds all I had to do was put the dot on my target and I hit it. This included bowling pins and clay pigeons at 200 yds. Granted it took more than 1 shot but that was due to me and my lousy trigger pull most likely. Only down side is that I had trouble seeing the dot on my targets. But I guess if you using red targets and a red dot it might be hard to see. :)

Tried a little co-witness action and that was like butter. Im sure glad I didnt spend 500+ on an Aimpoint and mount when I can spend 150 for Tacpoint and risers and be jsut as happy. :happydanc

For the reason of signature, Isreal (Elbit is the companies name) made a reactive dot sight called the Falcon. It has a red plastic cover over the LED so it filters is from view unless you're right on top of the weapon. It is reactive in the sense that if you use it in bright light it'll increase brightness of the dot automaticaly, reduce it in darkness. Uses a funky 3v lithium battery like a AA cell. Very rugged, still used by IDF and others. You can find these around but they were banned from import due to some bs abt being "an advanced combat optical gunsight", or so the story goes. Mine's not for sale, works great on my M4 flattie.

As far as I know, there is only one ACOG. Who wanted it banned, Aimpoint or another company?

I don't know the full and factual story, this may be merely rumour. It's just what I heard.
