Sup Kurt!

I bought a FSB w/ bayo lug that is actually more milspec than my bushy FSB and is much better machined except for one thing: Its got no holes for the cross pins! I was talking to a friend at the range and he said that they are drilled by the smith specifically for each barrel.

Also, instead of having the cross pin holes, it has a set screw hole in the bottom between the sling loop holder and the hole is also drilled up into the FSB below the port where the gas tube enters the FSB. He said that this was a better way to mount the FSB to the barrel. He also said that it can be used for on barrels that have been machined for the cross pins. Is that true or did I get screwed out of $25?

So what you're saying is there is a tapped hole between the tabs for the sling loop? There's aways a hole there as it provides access for the machining the port in the FSB (allowing barrel gasses to find their way into the gas tube), but it's not tapped for a setscrew. You couldn't use the tapped hole/setscrew anyway once the sling loop in mounted. That one point is also NOT enough retention for the FSB! Thx.

Your right, I thought it was tapped but its not. I just never noticed the hole there since I havent been able to take my sling loop off. So is it otherwise ok? RJ said that my friend was right and the machinist machines the holes to match each different barrel? So I didnt get screwed?

EDIT: The machinist machines the taper pin holes for each different barrel that is.

When performing this type of work, you pick up the pin locations in the barrel, then slide the front sight in position and secure. Then drill through the FSB at the pin locations and taper ream in the regular manner.
