My trusty M-17 scored again this week. Last saturday was the opening day of the Rifle Deer Hunt. It was also my dear departed Dad's 97th B-day and so around the whole state of Utah folks paid him homage by wearing "Hunter Orange". He was a deer hunters, deer hunter, used a saddle model and sport model Win 30-30 most of the time, with open sights and brought down many muleys over his long life. Hunted from horse back cause of his health and shot while holding the reins and kneeling on the ground most of the time. I went up and hunted in the tops of the Mt's west of where I live in his fav hunting spot to pay him homage last saturday. Called my family (i was REAL suprised I had cell service clear up there) and told them Howdy from Windy Ridge!!!!!!!!
Monday one in our party hit a 3x4 on the leg and cowdawg being the softy he is tracked it down and the M-17 did its job and put the muley down in good 30-06 fashion. (I was also feeling bad for the 16 yr old who wounded the above deer so i cleaned it for him also. Plus I have been dating his Mom :naughty: and she being a widow with 6 boys I am giving them the vension from my muley also.)
Then later on monday I saw my wallhanger I have been looking for and again my good old M-17 (the DeerSlayer) did its thing and I have a REAL nice 4x4 Muley who will be a great memory. That is the ONLY rifle I have ever takin Deer with. I have many rifles, from my dear departed Dads sport model Win 30-30 to new and much shinier varmet rifles, but the good old M-17 is still my all time favorite hunting rifle. Peep sights and all.
BTW the first deer was around 100 yards away and the 2nd a honest 250 yards across a canyon in Piute County Utah. It did its job!!! :up: :up:
