Most affordable AR10 ???

I really want an AR10 or at least some type of AR rifle that eats .308 ammo.

1) Are there any options that are more affordable than others?

2) How widely available are the mags? Price?

3) Do the mags differ from the military mags much?

I'm looking for the most affordable way to get into an AR10. Thanks for any help.

Three Choices at hand...

Armalite $$$$

Bushmaster BAR 308 rifles are going for $1200-1400 bucks... but they use cheap FAL mags.

DPMS's 308 you can get for $850 or there abouts... but the only mags that work are original Armalite waffle mags or SR25 mags... even with the AW ban sunsetting, the cheapest I've seen SR25 mags is $60 bucks, and some are still asking over $100 bucks for them.

I have a DPMS 308, I talked with DPMS Sales just last week and they told me that they WILL have metal 20 round mags for the 308 this coming january for sure... 20 round mags for about $30 bucks. They also plan to come out with a carry handle/front sight version and uppers as well. Right now they just have the flat top model.

I agree, DPMS is the lowest priced of all the .308 ARs. 20rd Mags would be nice for them...

After seeing this thread... I called DPMS to ask them another question.... "Will an AR15 CAR/M4 stock work on their 308 model"? They said yes, but you'll need a shorter buffer... they have plans for that to come out soon. Reason is the bolt carrier for the DPMS is longer...

Anyway, I asked them about the mags again... the sales guy I talked with named ADAM said that they'd be available come January for civilians but you'd have to get them from a dealer to get them quicker...

BUT, he said that they'd be about $60 bucks!

WTF DPMS? Why so much?

Thanks guys. I did find an Armalite AR-10 for $1085.00 new, but I passed it up and bought a FAL. It took quite a while to get some responses to this thread. I decided on the FAL because of the mag prices and availability.
But the info is still good to have. An AR-10 will probably be back on the list eventually. I just wish there was some more uniformity to the types of mags they use etc. Every manufacturer is doing different things it seems.

you will most likely sell the fal for the Armalite ar-10.mags 39.00 now.lifetime warranty,i had great coustomer service dispite what you hear.im just trying to figure out the next new toys.
